As his bio says, Aral is a "cyborg rights activist" and does a *lot* of work towards furthering privacy in this age of surveillance capitalism.

Selea, Perflyst, and Caltlgin are all members of the #librehosters network (as am I) and we host web services for anyone to use free of charge. I think I speak for all of us when I say that digital privacy is something we care deeply about and we're trying to do our part to improve that for as many people as possible 🙂

In short . . . it sucks. People want a simple install method that includes running one, maybe two commands and messing with a config file. They don't care to actually know what's going on under the hood so they can *properly* run it: verify signatures, download components from trusted sources, keep everything patched for security, ensure every dependency is up to date, etc.

"Throw this Docker image on your server and in 2 seconds, you'll have this service running with no hassle whatsoever!"

Fuck that shit. Do it right.

#Volla is an open phone designed from the ground up to be focused on privacy and security. It doesn't include Google Services or any Google Apps and Volla OS (which will be default) is based on AOSP. Some of the basic features of this phone make is *so* damn compelling that I think I'll save up a bit and purchase one.

The idea isn't "how to market" or "how to advertise" or anything similar. It's about being sustainable. One of the biggest tragedies of the open source ecosystem is when someone incredibly passionate about something puts their time, their sweat, and their love into a project then burns out and never touches it again. Whether it's because no one seems to care, it's not being received like they thought it would be, they can't continue with the project due to finances, etc., it is a *great* loss.

The post would be how to *practically* prevent burnout by creating an environment that fosters growth and inspires them to continue their work long-term.

just the 3rd largest hosting provider in the world, literally no difference choosing them if you're exiting big providers. Your money still goes to the same investors, still promising increased profits to shareholders, and still fuckin delivering on it thanks to this sweet developer angle.
